Although Eurasian Magpies are primarily heterosexual, they have occasionally been observed forming same sex pair bonds. These birds typically mate for life, but if a partner dies, they will often seek a new companion. Sometimes that new bond is with a bird of the opposite sex, and sometimes it is with one of the same sex.
In a way, their behavior can be seen as loosely of abrosexuality, as their pairings do not always follow a single pattern. At different times, they may form opposite sex bonds, same sex bonds, or remain unpaired. Whether with a male or a female partner, magpies are known for forming deep connections, spending their time together feeding, gathering shiny objects, and exploring.
